Three TMC MLAs join BJP in Manipur

Imphal: Three disqualified Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs joined BJP on Sunday and announced of fighting the ruling Congress in the yet to be decided mid-term polls.

Their entry came a day ahead of the crucial Manipur Autonomous District Council (ADC) election. BJP exuded confidence of grabbing majority of seats in all the six hill district councils in the ADC polls.

Invoking the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution and relevant laws, Manipur speaker Th Lokeshwar on Wednesday disqualified the three MLAs — Khumukcham Joykishan Singh of Thangmeiband constituency in Imphal West, Th Biswajit Singh (Thongju in Imphal East) and Oinam Lukhoi (Wangoi in Imphal West).

BJP’s Manipur unit president Th Chaoba Singh formally inducted the trio after a small function at the party’s Imphal office.

Of the 60-member assembly, Trinamool had won seven seats in the 10th Manipur assembly election in 2012. Following the demise of senior party MLA Maibam Kunjo in August last year and the recent disqualification, the party is left with only three MLAs.

“Today, the three ex-MLAs joined us to fight the corrupt Congress,” said Chaoba.

“The three ex-MLAs, who had won their first fight in 2012 assembly elections, will now defeat Congress in the coming mid-term polls,” said Chaoba, also a former Union minister.

BJP national leader Tapir Gao said wished the three ex-MLAs good luck on behalf of party’s national president Amit Shah and Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi.

The former MLAs said they have joined the saffron party considering BJP’s unrelenting steps for the overall development of the country under the dynamic and energetic leadership of Modi.

“We will work wholeheartedly under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We have 100% self-confidence that we will defeat Congress in the mid-term polls,” said Biswajit.
