Cops finally nab boss-woman of car theft company!

ALLAHABAD [ Uttar Pradesh]: Shweta Gupta, a lady with an MBA degree exchanged her job at an agency selling used cars for a more exciting and lucrative career. She became the boss-woman of a five member auto-theft gang. She was arrested on Saturday.

Shweta’s gang, based in UP, was active in several states. The police have found several stolen cars in their possession. Some of these vehicles were discovered at Kanpur where she lives. Police uncovered hundreds of sold and dismantled stolen vehicles with scrap dealers in Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra and Allahabad.

Gupta sold the stolen vehicles through three outlets. . The woman had become a big challenge for the police. On several occasions, police tried to nab her but she outsmarted them every time.

SSP VP Srivastava said police teams of several districts of the state were engaged to nab Sweta Gupta and her gang. “Sweta’s name surfaced when Shiva, a member of her gang, was caught with several vehicles in April. Several police teams were deployed to nab her. As arrests of her gang members continued, she went underground in Jammu and Kashmir. She later resurfaced in Himachal Pradesh and other states.”

Police tracked the mobile phones of Sweta and her gang. “Through the mobile surveillance, the crime branch team tracked her location at TP Nagar, where she had rented a house. On getting the information, the police arrested her,” said the SSP.

On interrogation, she disclosed that stolen vehicles were sent to Unnao, Kanpur and Lucknow and other cities for sale. “Prominent scrap dealer of Lucknow Raju Garage, Kanpur’s Dental alias Chandan Sharma, Ramji, Shyamji, Gulshan and those of Allahabad would sell the stolen cars at about Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000. The gang had stolen two new cars in Allahabad within an hour of their purchase, police told the media.

The gang members caught from Kanpur were identified as Ramu, Manoj Kumar, Dinesh Kumar, Gulshan Kumar. Five of them: Chandar alias Rinku from Agra, Raju from Lucknow, Ankur from Etawah, Chanda, Shyamji and Ramji from Kanpur were still at large.
