Bihar’s Only Vocational Uni to get VC soon

PATNA: After being ‘headless’ for over a year now, The Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU), the only university of technical colleges in Bihar, is likely to get a full-fledged vice-chancellor (VC) soon. The founder VC S N Guha retired on March 19 last year

Reports indcate that the interviewws of about 40 candidates for the post will be held at Governor’s House on May 29 – 30. The shortlisted applicants include pro-VCs and government officials from Bihar and outside. Following the interviews , the search committee will prepare a panel of three names and submit it to the chancellor who, in consultation with the chief minister, will choose one as the new VC. The new vice-chancellor will appointed by the governor for a tenure of three years as per the provisions of the Act. The search committee consists of Mumbai University former VC Vijay V Khole, UP Technical University’s former VC Durg Singh Chauhan and Nalanda Open University VC Ras Bihari Prasad Singh.

After Guha, AKU pro-VC Uday Kant Mishra was asked to officiate as the VC. He resigned from the post on March 20 this year. At present, the dean of the faculty of medicine is officiating as the VC of AKU.

Established in 2011, AKU is the brainchild of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. 71 colleges spread over 24 districts, are affiliated to the Aryabhatt Knowledge University. Over 20,000 students are enrolled in medical, engineering and other professional courses. All the community colleges started by the state last year are also affiliated to AKU.
