Flipkart flips out over fakes

Flipkart will face consumer ire  over spurious merchandise! A fake JBL wireless speaker sold on Flipkart may become a legal wrangle.

Counterfeit products being sold online are not new and all major e-commerce players including, Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon have been through it. Only last year, the editor of Newsnet East took Amazon to task for selling seeds for ‘rainbow roses’ – something that doesn’t actually exist in nature! The company refunded the amount along with a gift coupon and the seller had to face action.

But the consumer in this case, Jay Samal, isn’t satisfied with receiving his money back. He’s  planning to lodge a first information report (FIR) against the Bangalore -based company for the hassle.

Flipkart, in its response to the consumer has described the event as ‘rare’ and ‘isolated’, adding it is investigating the matter internally. Samal has been refunded the money he had paid for the speaker.

“The matter is not just about getting the money refunded. Selling fake products is a serious crime. Not just me, many others are also going through the same hassle by buying these fake products,” Samal, an advertisement industry executive said. To prevent this, “I’m planning to file an FIR and the matter should be decided in the courts.”

Flipkart did not respond to a query sent by a business magazine on the matter. But the newspaper reviewed the emails exchanged between the consumer and the Flipkart customer care team.
