Baptists celebrate 100 years of Rongmei Ministry

IMPHAL, MANIPUR – The Baptist Church in Imphal is celebrating its centenary . Over 10,000 Rongmei tribesmen living across the Northeastern region and abroad have arrived at the Rongmei Naga Baptist Association (RNBA) centre at Tarung near here to attend the Rongmei Christian centenary celebration 2014.

The four-day long celebrations ending Sunday, featured a series of programmes including children’s events, morning worship service, and so on.

Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam attended the morning session of the centenary celebration on the second day and inaugurated an exhibition of traditional items. “This is not just a religious gathering of the Rongmeis but also a cultural event,” an organiser said.

A 1000 member choir  comprising of  students and working women performed during the centenary celebrations.

The celebrations began on Thursday with K Panti , grandson of the first Rongmei Christian baptised pioneer  Haipou Namrijinang, lighting the torch at Keishamthong Baptist Church. A procession was also taken out on the occasion.
