Manipur’s Sangai festival goes international

IMPHAL– VIPS from Burma, China and Thailand are slated to visit Manipur’s Sangai Festival which begins today [Thursday] and lasts till the end of November.

The Manipur Government is all set to welcome the visit of Chief Ministers Tha Aye and Ye Mint of Burma’s’s Saigang and Mandalay divisions along with their delegations here by a maiden international flight to attend the Sangai festival beginning tomorrow.sangai

Soon after their arrival at the Imphal international airport around 10 am, the Burmese delegation will visit major government and private health care centres here including RIMS, JNIMS, Shija and Babina.

They will also visit the High Court of Manipur complex and the Assembly complex at Chingmeirong which is said to be the largest Assembly complex in the North East.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, his Council of Ministers and top officials will receive the visiting Burmese team at the Imphal airport, sources said.

The visiting Chief Ministers of Saigang and Mandalay will join DoNER Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar and Chief Minister O Ibobi to inaugurate the 10-day Manipur Sangai Festival at Hafta Kangjeibung here.

Delegations from China and Thailand will also attend the festival. The festival will showcase and promote art and culture, handloom, handicrafts and fine arts, indigenous sports, cuisines and music, eco & adventure sports as well as the scenic natural beauty of the State.
