Manipur to roll out Food Security to poor by Sept end

IMPHAL:– The poor in Manipur as well as the HIV positive have a reason for hope as Manipur will get the National Food Security effort going y the end of this month.

Manipur Government is making all out efforts for implementation of the National Food Security Ordinance (NFSO) in the State by September 30, official sources here said.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh held a high-level meeting with Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAFPD) Minister M Okendro, CAFPD Commissioner Y Thamkishore, CAFPD Director M Yaiskul and Deputy Commissioners of all the districts recently to discuss the progress of updating the list of proposed beneficiaries under the NFSO, the sources said.

It was decided in the meeting to finalise the list by September 30 next and families which do not own four-wheelers and do not pay taxes are eligible to enjoy benefits of the Ordinance, sources said. They said families whose annual incomes are less than Rs 1 lakh, disabled persons and people living with HIV would also get benefits of the NFSO.

The beneficiaries would get five kilograms of rice per head at Rs 3 per kg every month besides dal, wheat and other commodities at the lowest price, sources said.
